"With Norte, in Playa Vik we achieved things that had never been done before in Uruguay using glass, titanium, different types of doors, walls built using other types of materials, a lot of visible concrete. This was quite a different project. The swimming pool, designed to rise above the ground as if suspended in the air, posed one of the greatest challenges. For some time the pool rested on columns but when these columns were removed, the pool lifted. They explained that once we filled it up with water, it would rest back on the ground again.

I was sceptical and thought the concrete structure would not yield but it did: they had calculated things in such a way that once the swimming pool had been filled up, the weight of the water lowered it back onto the ground. Norte is a big company that has the resources required for special things. I recommend them when it comes to complex construction projects. Things went swifter in the case of Bahía Vik. We hired architect Marcelo Daglio and he told us that Norte was the only company that could carry out the project the way he wanted it. So we followed his advice and it was completed within the established time frame.

One of the important things is that the owners are always present; they are easily accessible and do not ignore you. I have met the second generation and am sure that if I have to call them on a Sunday night, they will answer. It is rare to have such a relationship with a contractor. But they are a big company managed as a family business, which is a very good combination".
